"Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest"
In 2008, 35% of traffic fatalities in Washington involved drivers with BACs above .08, contributing to the nearly 12,000 alcohol-related traffic fatalities nationwide.
Through Labor Day weekend, advertisements and extra law enforcement patrols across the country are drawing attention to high-visibility frontline enforcement. We encourage support from medical professionals in the hopes of improving Washington's impaired driving statistics.
Follow these simple steps to help spread the word to our medical communities and media outlets:
-
Forward this message along to any of your local, regional, or state EMS and medical personnel to notify them of the current enforcement crackdown.
-
Encourage increased dialogue around the prevention of and alternatives to driving while under the influence.
-
Engage local media partners to highlight the PREVENTABLE nature of injuries sustained from impaired driving.
-
Download earned media and creative materials from our campaign planner at http://www.stopimpaireddriving.org/PEAK/index.html.
-
Promote your support as medical personnel by submitting editorial letters to your local newspapers about the national campaign.
Please join partners across the country in cracking down on impaired drivers this August 20, 2010 through September 6, 2010. By making your efforts highly visible and promoting your local participation, we can get impaired drivers off the streets and save more lives.

Special Announcement in Injury & Violence Prevention - August 25
As we come closer to Child Passenger Safety Week (September 19-25) and
National Seat Check Saturday (September 25), NHTSA needs your help to spread the important message of this campaign.
Today, nearly three out of four child seats are used incorrectly, and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children age three and older.
NHTSA works every day to help educate parents and caregivers about the "4 Steps for Kids" (rear-facing, forward-facing, booster seats, seat belts) and provide them with the tools they need to keep child passengers safe.
Download and post any of our informative PDFs on child passenger
safety: http://childcarsafety.adcouncil.org/
